In Scandinavia
Jan. 20th, 2012 04:47 pmGothenberg is vaguely pretty. Buildings are more colourful and more
varied in shape than in Jerusalem, yet also somehow more annoying.
I have already been subject to horrific police brutality when I
tried to pet a drug-sniffing dog and the police officer struck my
hand.
The Jews here sometimes describe themselves as
Swedish "150%" and sometimes describe themselves as inherently
different from the "real" Swedes. Swedish is a very musical
language and doesn't sound bad, yet when Swedish people speak
English I am amazed that real humans are talking -- it sounds
exactly like an over-modulated computer speaking.
I miss speaking Hebrew very much.
It has become so engrained to speak to strangers, animals, important people,
and children in Hebrew and I find I still automatically respond in
Hebrew when bumping into somebody or thanking.
We're here until Tuesday.
