fever dreams
Nov. 12th, 2011 05:42 pmThe dream took place in Canada, where there was a big First Nations art festival, and for some reason my art was featured as well. During the opening, I was walking around talking to other artists and the co-ordinator came up to me. "Look at this media coverage," she said with disgust. "All they show are pictures of horses and other stereotypical shit. Why don't they show the real range of art we have here?" She went up to the platform to make an announcement about it, which was received with cheers.
At that point, I woke up a little to notice H. getting dressed for synagogue, and fell back asleep (I'm very sick at the moment with bronchitis or something).
Now the dream changed so that my entire yeshiva was there for the festival and were praying off to the side since it was Shabath morning. As in real life, I decided I was too sick to go. Finally I managed to stumble around half-dressed and came across the yeshiva beginning the concluding prayers. I kept trying to see who was leading but my eyes would somehow bounce off the person and I could only catch a weird, warped glimpse.
A middle-aged woman asked me if I was going to join the minyan. "I can't," I said sadly, "I think I'm a mumar" (heretic). She became very angry at me and said "Do you think if there was a real mumar here, it could possibly be hidden?"
At that point I realised that the one leading was actually God, who very slightly turned towards me and said "So now you're too good to pray with me?" In the dream it seemed clear that "with me" meant "with a minyan" (I've been staying home sick for the past few days). I was very ashamed and scared and went to take my seat.
So when I got up in real life I dragged my ass over to the minyan where with my litres upon litres of snot and feeble, hacking cough I proceeded to disgust everyone ever and probably infected all the old people fatally.
Anyway in the dream one of the only things I could see in the resemblance of God was tefilin, which since it was Shabath proves that the halakhah is according to R Meir and others that the mitswah has no time restraints, at least that's what they think in the next world, according to my dream which was sponsored by codeine.
